Profile
Mike Ayres Design
Mike Ayres has been designing equipment and environments for people with special needs for more than 25 years. He has been involved in many pioneering research projects and has worked with a large number of statutory and voluntary organisations serving people with disabilities.
Much of his recent work has been focused on multi-sensory development and he was instrumental in introducing the concept into Britain and much of the advancements in environments and products since then. This includes the development of Sensory Studio®, radio remote switch control and many individual and integrated products to encourage individual and totally inclusive development.
He continues to aim to design and produce the very best equipment and environments for people with special needs and to advise authorities, organisations and architects on the design and development of such specialist environments.
Sensory Studio
This is a new concept in sensory work, which has evolved out of the use of snoezelen, multi-sensory rooms and interactive light and dark rooms. They have developed through the need for more flexible spaces which enable the users to create whatever type of environment, scene or mood they wish, either temporary or permanent. lt allows appropriate interactivity by people of all cognitive and physical abilities. Sensory Studios can be used for curriculum work, creating themed environments, specific therapy and assessment, as well as creating a relaxing or fun space to explore and experiment with. Sensory Studio is a trade mark registered by Mike Ayres. For further, more detailed information please visit our website, or call us on 01359-251 551.
